No place for Sourav Ganguly in IPL
All the speculations regarding availability of former Indian Cricketer Sourav Ganguly in the Indian Premiere League (IPL) finally came to an end on Friday.
According to the report, IPL franchise owners have voiced against Kochi’s move to sign unsold players.
BCCI had sought reply from the all team owners after Kochi team reportedly expressed desire to ink Ganguly for the IPL4.
Earlier, the IPL Governing Council called a meet on Friday to discuss the induction of three unsold players Ganguly, Wasim Jaffer and VRV Singh.
Ganguly, who was ignored by the IPL franchise owner during the IPL auction, was reportedly approached by the Kochi IPL franchise.
According to the sources, Kochi IPL has been showing interest to ink Ganguly for the T20 Extravaganza starting in April 2011.
The BCCI had sought NOC from the IPL franchises in this regard. In the letter to Franchise owners, BCCI had emphasized the name of Ganguly.
As per the IPL contract guidelines, a team cannot sign a player after auction.
If IPL Kochi includes Ganguly in the side, it will have to pay minimum base price and the amount will be released from the team’s salary cap.
